Y is for Yield. Healing with words. Day 25. #atozchallenge.

yield |yēld|verbproduce or provide • produce or deliver (a result or gain) generate  give way to arguments, demands, or pressure : relinquish possession of (something); give (something) up • cease to argue about • allow another the right to speak in a debate • give right of way to other traffic.• give way under force or pressure nounthe full amount of an agricultural or industrial product DERIVATIVESyielder noun (usu. in sense 1)

I had to choose my own Y word because there isn't one in the deck. I like the word youthful but I recently started a relationship with the word yield after I read a post last month from Writercize, on the A to Z blogging challenge page.

It was an alphabet challenge of a different variety, using the 26 letters of the alphabet consecutively to create a story that makes sense.

This was my very poor in comparison to others, attempt:

A bothersome child didn't empty Father George's holy Italian jar. Knowing luck manifests nicely on prayer. Quietly, requesting solemnity, tactfully undo vexation with Xavier, yeilding zilch.

It even included the spelling mistake.  In my mind it meant that the priest was annoyed, but had faith that the boy would learn so he didn't succumb to his frustration.  Later that day I saw the word yield in a sentence that made sense. I looked it up and discovered more.

In short it means to either produce, or to give in to.  Which got me thinking about that yielding can be yielding, or in order to yield we must yield.

Perhaps I should have just stuck to youthful.  I've always wondered why people worry about ageing, the closest I have come to knowing what it feels like - is the exact opposite. I have only ever yearned to be older.  Maybe it comes from only being 5 foot tall.

As a child I was 7 going on 70.  I counselled adults with relationship problems, attitudes about themselves and the people around them. As a teenager, I longed to be older so I could wear what I wanted and not feel pressured to conform to fashions trends.  As a young woman, I desired acknowledgment, which only seems to come with experience and rarely for insight.  Now I have my heart set on wearing comfortable old lady shoes, all the time.

I don't want to be young again I plan to yield to the laws of nature and marvel at things like new chin hairs as blooming buds in spring, Yield a youthful spirit by playing with children, listening to young people and celebrating passing years with people older than me.

I yield to ageing and yield youthful

If yield was in my deck of cards, I am sure it would only come up at times that I needed to be more like grass, blow around in the wind, get mowed down, keep growing and spread some new seeds. A yielded yielder.
